Laumarang Waterfall
Laumarang Waterfall is a multi-level waterfall hidden in the forest near Luwuk. Travelers describe it as falling into a clear turquoise pool, and it is often treated as a quieter alternative to the more visited waterfalls around town.
Where Is Laumarang Waterfall?
Lonely Planet places Laumarang, together with Piala Waterfall, up the canyon northwest of Luwuk. Online maps list the site at roughly -0.94, 122.76. The two waterfalls are usually visited separately, so check each route before you set out.
How to Get There
The road to the trailhead is the harder part of the trip. Lonely Planet notes that the road is muddy and that the local government has been working to improve it, and one traveler describes it as very challenging by scooter. A car or an experienced driver is the safer option, and conditions can change after rain, so ask locally before you go.
From the parking area, a traveler reports about 25–30 minutes on foot through forest. The trail is described as steep and slippery in places, so wear proper shoes rather than flip-flops.
What to Expect
The reward is a waterfall that drops in several levels into a turquoise pool. A small cave to the right of the lower drop is reported to give a different view of the falls. The same traveler suggests allowing around 1.5 hours for the visit itself, not counting the drive.
Entrance Fee
One traveler report mentions an entrance fee of IDR 20,000 per person. Treat this as a guide only, because it may have changed. Confirm the current fee on arrival.
Best Time to Visit
There is no official guidance on seasons. Because the road and trail are slippery after rain, dry weather is the practical choice. Go in the morning to leave time for the walk and the drive back.
What to Bring
Bring shoes with good grip, drinking water, a waterproof bag for your phone or camera and a change of clothes if you plan to get wet. Facilities may be limited, so carry what you need and take your litter with you.
Plan Your Visit
Laumarang can be combined with other nature stops around Luwuk. Start with the Luwuk itinerary guide or the Banggai tour services page if you would like help arranging transport.
Access and fees reflect public travel sources (Lonely Planet and a traveler report on Rexby) and may have changed. Please confirm locally before travelling.
